Eligio Bishop, who is also known as “Nature Boy,” was given a life sentence with no possibility of parole after being convicted on multiple crimes as the head of a cult. According to WSB-TV, a jury reached a verdict on Friday, finding Bishop guilty of rape, false imprisonment, and three charges related to the prohibition of sending nude or sexually explicit electronic messages. Bishop, aged 40, was apprehended in April 2022 following allegations of his leadership role in a cult referred to as the “Carbon Nation” organization. An ex-partner, who self-identified as his girlfriend, informed the authorities that he shared explicit content as an act of retribution “due to her decision to end the relationship.” Additionally, she informed police authorities that she had become a member of a “sexual cult” in which her lover assumes the role of the leader. During the court proceedings this week, Assistant District Attorney Michael Coveney emphasized the grave and appalling allegations that Bishop is facing. “The trial does not concern the fact that he is a cult leader,” Coveney stated. “He utilized, took advantage of, and mistreated his members.” Coveney’s statements are consistent with the accounts provided by neighbors to WSB-TV in 2022 following Bishop’s arrest. “Carbon Nation” is the name of his sect. A neighbor informed reporters that he has been engaging in promiscuous behavior with women, physically assaulting women, impregnating women, and preparing women for marriage. Prior to his imprisonment, several former adherents of Bishop’s cult provided testimonies regarding the abuse they endured. “You are now a captive, just as you imprisoned us,” one witness remarked.
