The driver of an allegedly stolen car sped across the Manhattan Bridge, lost control, and struck two people, resulting in their deaths, before crashing into an NYPD van Saturday morning, police reported.
The tragic incident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. when a blue Chevrolet Malibu collided with a man in his 30s riding a bicycle and a 63-year-old woman sitting on a bench at Bowery and Canal Street, according to police.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver, who had turned 23 the day before, and her 22-year-old female passenger attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended nearby, authorities stated.
The vehicle was reportedly “full of booze and drugs,” including pills, marijuana, and a bottle of alcohol, according to police sources.
