Police on Sunday identified a 17-year-old who died after being shot by an officer while he was accused of firing into a crowd gathered early Saturday near a business in east Lubbock.
Lubbock’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred as officers responded around 3:22 a.m. Saturday, July 5, to a report of a fight in progress at a business located in the 2900 block of Parkway Drive, according to a statement from Lubbock police.
Authorities stated that 17-year-old Terrence Hastings Jr. was shooting at others at the scene when officers arrived, which prompted one officer to return fire, striking him. He died at the scene, and five other people were hospitalized.
